Chris Johnson
Mechanical Engineer
As the need for renewable energy sources has grown over the last several years, so has Chris’s interest in new energy technologies.
Chris washed ashore at AllEarth Renewables from stints designing custom carbon fiber sailboat masts and booms – for boats ranging in size from 30 to 90 feet – in Rhode Island, and designing large-diameter, deep-water intake pipelines in Waimanalo, Hawaii. These pipes deliver seawater for a number of uses, most commonly cold water air conditioning but also aquaculture and OTEC, an experimental power production technique.
Chris grew up in the Adirondacks and AllEarth Renewables afforded him the opportunity to return to this area and do work that would have a positive impact on the world. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University and is certified in advanced open-water SCUBA. In his free time, Chris enjoys sailing, backcountry telemark and cross-country skiing, cycling, and any activity that lets him play in the mountains.
