Earth Turbines

Earth Turbine and fall foliageTower height is critical to the efficiency of a small scale wind turbine.

By placing the turbine 30 to 50 feet above any surrounding obstacles, the zone of turbulent air is avoided. Because 60 to 70 foot trees are common in many parts of the United States, our 112 foot tower is a necessity for many sites. Turbulent air is choppy, with wind swirling in erratic patterns after making contact with houses, trees or nearby hilltops. This choppy quality makes turbulent wind a poor quality fuel source for a wind turbine.

When a turbine is placed above the zone of turbulence it has access to higher velocity winds which are also smoother and provide greater power.
