AllEarth's Women in Solar

Posted by AllEarth Renewables on October 12, 2015 in Women in Solar

AllEarth is proud to support WISE (Women in Solar Energy) and their #NationWISE campaign by promoting gender diversity in the solar industry. We wanted to take a few minutes to recognize the women of AllEarth Renewables and highlight the diverse backgrounds that make them such great assets both to our team, and to the world of renewables. 11225217_1051358854898733_2963535539267053717_o

Beth Sengle, Sales Coordinator
Describe your role at AER:

"I have multiple roles within the Sales Team. My primary job allows me to work with customers who need to make a decision around their solar Tracker(s).  I talk to homeowners, businesses, schools, and towns who took a chance on AllEarth 5 years ago with a PPA arrangement. Renewing and selling these trackers is most of my job. Many days it feels more like customer service than sales."

How did you get into the solar industry?/What's your favorite thing about working in solar?
"After raising a family, I knew that if and when I returned to the business world, it had to be in the pursuit of something I could believe in.  Pre-motherhood I spent a decade selling consumer goods (that I didn't use)  for a Fortune 500 Company. In my career change I focused on opportunities to join a team that was affecting change.  I want to spend my days somehow bettering the world for my children.  Renewable energy offered the opportunity, and AER had the leadership team I knew I could follow."

Carolyn Cooke, Director of Sales and Marketing
Describe your role at AER:

"I oversee all of the sales and marketing initiatives at AER.  I manage a team of amazing sales and marketing people who are working on creating a renewable future with installers across the nation. I am part of the senior leadership team who is looking at the big picture for the company."

How did you get into the solar industry?

"I got in to the solar industry by answering an ad :-)  I was looking for a place that would combine my experience and skills and make a difference in the world.  I had spent 20+ years in the outdoor sporting goods industry and I was ready to move into something else that was good for the environment."

What's your favorite thing about working in solar?

"Besides the people, I like how dynamic and fast-paced the industry is.  Just when I think I have it all figured out some new policy or product shows up and it is back to the starting gate again!"

Debra Royce, Chief Financial Officer
Describe your role at AER:

"I am responsible for the financial and IT areas of the company, working closely with the management team to support their financial needs."

How did you get into the solar industry?

"It was important for me to work in a mission-oriented business with a team of passionate committed professionals."

What's your favorite thing about working in solar?

"That I can do my little piece to make the world a better place for my children and many generations to come.   My daughters are very passionate about renewables, and it is nice to have this in common with them...and that they can feel proud about the work we do."

Joyce Dicianna, Director of Human Resources
Describe your role at AER:

"I sit on the Senior Management Team as the Director of Human Resources."

How did you get into the solar industry?

"Having left an entrepreneurial company in 2009 that was very mission-driven and that I helped the founder grow for almost 30 years, it was important to me to find another start-up with an active founder, on a mission, who wanted to hire like-minded, talented Vermonters.  I knew it had to be a mission that was true to my core values of living as lightly as possible on the planet. I found that at AllEarth."

What's your favorite thing about working in solar?

"For me, it's really all about working with people who share a common passion for reducing our country's dependency on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions.  Everyone on the planet has to work in whatever small or large way we can to get the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to be less than 350ppm for the sake of coming generations.  I think Buckminster Fuller summed it up perfectly when he said: "We are not going to be able to operate our Spaceship Earth successfully nor for much longer unless we see it as a whole spaceship and our fate as common. It has to be everybody or nobody."

Jessie Wakefield, Staff Accountant
Describe your role at AER:

"As the Accounts Payable Staff Accountant, the bulk of my responsibility is to process and pay invoices from our vendors and consultants. Additionally, I track our solar project expenses, reconcile the company credit card statement, and manage our fixed assets."

How did you get into the solar industry?

"Our CEO, David Blittersdorf, our HR Director, Joyce Dicianna, and our Accounting Manager, Christie Hutchins, took a chance on me!  This is my first job in the solar industry, and I've never been prouder to work anywhere than I am here."

What's your favorite thing about working in solar?

"It's incredibly fulfilling to contribute to the "green revolution" by providing an innovative, high-quality product for people looking to become energy-independent. Conserving our planet's resources has always been important to me. At age 9, my older brother and I started a recycling program in our grade school after our mom began recycling at home. At the time, our household was the only one I knew of that recycled. Every other weekend, we drove our pre-sorted cans, bottles, and cardboard (separated into corrugated and flat) to the recycling center 20 minutes away. So it's exciting for me to be a part of the AER team!"

Kim Bleakley, Sales Account Manager
Describe your role at AER:

"At AllEarth Renewables I keep people informed and excited about renewable solar energy.  From residential installations to commercial and small utility scale projects I'm finding ways to help our dealers to combine technology with renewable, clean energy solutions."

How did you get into the solar industry?

"With a background in construction management and environmentally responsible design projects, I jumped into the fast paced world of solar with a move from Colorado to Vermont.  I grew up with solar panels on our family home so it's always been part of my everyday lifestyle."

What's your favorite thing about working in solar?

"Working in the solar industry is so exciting!  With new developments being made every day, we need passionate and adventurous people who aren't afraid to make things happen."

Meghan Dewald, Executive Assistant
Describe your role at AER:

"I support our President / CEO in all areas, ranging from routine administrative tasks to special projects, and act as a point of contact for internal & external requests. I enjoy the variety -- no two days are the same!"

How did you get into the solar industry?

"I was already working at our company when we shifted from designing a residential-scale wind turbine to focusing exclusively on making solar trackers. Although our turbine design was successful, it became clear we couldn't successfully bring a small turbine to a national market fractured by so many zoning districts with different rules for small wind permitting. Solar offered more stability in permitting, financing and scalability, and in response we've developed a successful dual-axis solar tracker that's now available in 27 states. It's been fascinating to be part of the solar industry at such an amazingly productive and busy time."

What's your favorite thing about working in solar?

"My favorite thing about working in solar is the energy people are bringing to what feels like a collective human endeavor. We are all aware that humanity's relationship to energy is the defining issue of our times, and that there's an urgent need to shift to renewables. It's exciting to feel this energy both within the industry, and also being reflected back by our customers, for whom solar makes good moral sense as well as good financial sense."

Sonya Krakoff, Marketing Coordinator

Describe your role at AER:

"I coordinate the day-to-day marketing efforts at AllEarth, helping to keep both our dealers and our end customers informed and excited about what we're doing. That means I'm responsible for writing content, managing social media, running the website, and working with dealers to execute their own marketing activities."

How did you get into the solar industry?

"I've always been drawn to companies that were "doing good." The renewables industry was a natural fit for my desire to work someplace that was changing the world for the better. When I saw that AllEarth (a company known for its commitment to the triple bottom line of people, profit, and planet) was hiring, I knew it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up!"

What's your favorite thing about working in solar?

"It's rewarding to come to work every day and feel like you're doing something meaningful. The solar industry is growing exponentially and it's so exciting to be involved in a field that is not only dynamic, interesting, and challenging, but is also truly making a difference."
