Vermont's First Annual Celebrate Solar Tours

Vermont is celebrating its drive toward a sustainable energy future this Saturday, June 20th, with the first Celebrate Solar Tours.

Like our state's iconic open sugar house weekend in the spring and our celebrated open art studio weekend in the fall, these inaugural summertime tours will give Vermonters the opportunity to get an up-close view of solar systems to learn about the technology, solar economics, and the benefits of solar to our community.  Solar customers and system owners will be on-hand to give tours of solar systems of all sizes and to speak with the public.

More than 50 systems across all regions of the state will be participating in Celebrate Solar Tours, and many sites will host refreshments, music, or other entertainment.  Other planned solar events include community walking tours of residential solar installations, miniature golf, a self-guided bike tour, and on-site yoga.  This is what solar in our community looks like!

Among the solar tracker sites open to tour June 20: sweet Vermont attractions like Cold Hollow Cider and Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks, high-tech attractions like Small Dog Electronics, agricultural farms like Champlain Orchards, and one of Vermont’s highest  producing solar farms, AllEarth Renewables' own South Burlington Solar Farm.  Check out this map for more information on locations, events, and timing.

Paul Brown, owner of Cold Hollow Cider in Waterbury Center, which hosts a 150kW solar tracker orchard powering its operations, says of the event, “Folks know us and visit us for our cider and donuts.  But we are thrilled to open up the field behind our cidery to share the benefits of solar technology to our business and our community.  We’ll of course also be serving up some sweet treats for those who come by.”

This event also marks the beginning of a new annual tradition; last week, Vermont governor Peter Shumlin, a great champion for solar power, proclaimed the third Saturday in June as Celebrate Solar Day in Vermont. Come join us and other solar partners across the state to kick off the fun!
