As passionate renewable energy advocates, we at AllEarth believe that our political leaders can and must do more at the local, state and federal levels to ensure we can make the life-saving transition from fossil fuels to renewables. While the battles are often uphill, good things do sometimes happen. In a blog post in March, we encouraged all to get behind S. 50, a Vermont bill that would raise the cap for ground-mounted solar projects eligible for Vermont’s simple registration process from 15kW to 25 kW.
S. 50 passed, was signed by the Governor and takes effect July 1st!
Our sincere thanks to all who helped move this forward, and who recognized that:
- Vermont’s registration process is successful and smart in helping individuals and small businesses to “go solar” without expensive and time-consuming permitting
- Our homes and businesses use more electricity for their heat pumps, EVs and other components of the transition that is coming, even if the headwinds seem strong at times in today’s political environment
- Increases in solar panel efficiency mean that a 25kW project today may well use less land area than a 15kW one would use ten or so years ago.
With this important law change coming into effect next week and the 30% federal tax credit (remember that this is a credit, not a mere deduction) still in place, this is a fantastic time to move forward on that Vermont-scale, directly owned solar energy system that you have been thinking about. And if you already have a registered ground-mounted system of 15kW or less, you can add to that system all the way to the new 25kW cap! And there is no better way to go forward than with our AllEarth Dual-Axis Trackers, whose “follow the sun” technology gives you about 40% energy production than those fixed ground mount or roof systems that just sit around.
