In early 2017, Suzanne and I were approached by Suzanne’s brother, Michael, of Wheeler’s Insurance about installing solar trackers in our pasture. The plan was to install four 7.2Kw solar trackers, so we would each have two trackers supplying us with the sun’s energy. We agreed. Production was started and was completed by December 31, 2017.
We have enjoyed the trackers for their productivity, especially on sunny days, as our farm is almost 100% electric in all our utilities plus Suzanne has an electric car. Wheeler’s Insurance uses their trackers to power their two offices in Norway and Bethel, Maine.
The panels are topics of good conversation for those interested in solar; and the trackers have incorporated into the farm surroundings quite well.
The horses—Moxie, the pony on left; Jezebelle, a Percheron Mare (who seems to be putting Moxie in his place); and Bear, a Welsh Cob Pony, grazing lazily in the distance—are not affected by the tracker presence.
